james and the giant peach analysis

Roald Dahl (1916-1990), Welsh author of Norwegian parents, is a well-known novelist, short story writer, poet and screenwriter (as well as aviator and spy) (more than 250 million books sold) and not without controversy. Dahl wrote numerous novels of children’s literature, several of which have been adapted to the screen. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Matilda, The Super Fox, James and the Giant Peach and The Witches are some of them.

Many of his children’s works are illustrated by the famed and multi-awarded English illustrator and author Quentin Blake, whom you can see in this video about Roald Dahl Day, September 13, 2018, dedicated to James and the Giant Peach.

The story is a very peachy adventure with fantastic and funny characters, full of problematic situations in which James will have to make use of his ability and ingenuity beyond what he ever imagined he could see and do.

The 1996 film was distributed by Walt Disney, produced by Tim Burton, and directed by Henry Selick. It is made by mixing real image, at the beginning and at the end of the story, and stop motion animation in the central part. This technique has also been used in other films such as Coraline. The film was very well received by critics but was not a great box office success.

He hid in some bushes… and an old man appeared and gave him some green pebbles in a little bag that would bring him happiness, but he couldn’t let them fall because they would go to an insect, an animal, a tree, etc. After that he disappeared.

James carefully went to get a pitcher of water to swallow them and as he was passing by an old peach tree that never bore fruit, his legs got tangled and he fell. Then all the stones went furiously down without a trace.

She went sadly to her room. Then his aunts were thrilled to see that the first peach grew on the tree, but it grew and grew, very quickly until it became bigger than their house. And they decided to charge a fee to let them see it, which many people accepted.

They went out onto the deck of the peach and apart from discovering that they could no longer see the seashore, they saw a bunch of sharks desperately eating the peach to get to them. In a desperate attempt to think James said that if they tied a rope to the seagulls coming for the land worm, as there were many of them they would lift the peach.
